TUMACO: WHERE FLAVOR MEETS TRANSFORMATION

Where

On Colombia’s Pacific coast lies Tumaco, a region as rich in culture and biodiversity as it is in cacao potential. Once known primarily for its history of conflict and illicit crops, Tumaco is now at the heart of one of our most inspiring stories of resilience and regeneration.

What

We began working in Tumaco in 2011, drawn by the unique, deep chocolate flavor of its native cacao. But what truly captivated us were the people — dedicated farmers with generations of knowledge and a desire for lasting change. Together, we introduced new techniques for fermentation and drying, helping unlock the full potential of their cacao and giving them access to specialty markets for the first time.

Impact

Today, farmers in Tumaco earn 20% more for their cacao sold to us over the local market, choosing a path of pride and prosperity through chocolate. With partners like ASPROCAT, we continue to protect native cacao genetics and invest in sustainable practices that strengthen both the land and the community.

Chocolate

Tumaco chocolate is bold, round, and full of character — a true reflection of the region and its people. It’s proof that cacao can do more than delight the senses. It can change lives.

Flavor profile: Pacific cacao with intense notes of wood, spices and nuts.

Deep and authentic.

Sierra Nevada: Chocolate Rooted in Ancestral Land

Where

In the sacred Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta — homeland of the Indigenous Arhuaco people — cacao has been grown for generations as part of a deep cultural and spiritual connection to the land.

Sierra Nevada Image

Who

At Cacao Hunters, we are honored to work in partnership with these communities, supporting their expertise through shared efforts to enhance post-harvest practices and protect native cacao varieties. Together, we’ve nurtured a model of sustainable cultivation that respects both nature and tradition.

Cacao Story

The result is a fine-flavor cacao unlike any other: bright, balanced, and expressive, with notes of red berries, panela, citrus, and warm spices. It’s a chocolate that carries the spirit of the Sierra — timeless, vibrant, and rooted in harmony.

Flavor profile: Bright citrus, cinnamon and the soft sweetness of panela come together in an herbal profile, full of freshness.

ARHUACOS

Where

The Arhuacos are an ancient indigenous community that protects one of the most biodiverse territories on the planet. For them, cacao is a spiritual link to Mother Earth. And for us, it has been a guide in our purpose to build a more harmonious value chain, where origin matters.

Cacao

It was with Arhuaco cocoa that our first internationally recognized chocolate was born: Arhuacos 72%, awarded gold at the International Chocolate Awards. A milestone that marked the beginning of the global recognition of Colombian cocoa as one of the best in the world.

Impact

Our commitment remains clear: to work hand in hand with communities, preserve biodiversity, and offer the world high-quality chocolates that tell real stories of origin, tradition, and innovation.

Farm Visit Updates

During our visit this year, we shared a very special experience: Mayumi Ogata, co-founder of Cacao Hunters, prepared a curry with our "Arhuacos 72%" chocolate, as a tribute to the meeting of cultures – Japanese, Arhuaco and Colombian – united by cocoa.

Due to our minimal intervention in production, the terroir you'll experience will present you with a truly authentic and delicious taste of a region you may not be familiar with. We hope this joy inspires you to learn more!
